Steve and Don make their first serious road trip to purchase single malt whiskeys. Central Liquors in Washington, DC looked great on the Internet and even better in person. Fourteen different malts were purchased on that day. The owner was quite pleasant.

On this date, Steve finds the One-Stop Liquor store in Johnson City, Tennessee. It boasts a modest selection of single malts but is perhaps the closest store to Blacksburg if a wider selection of whiskeys must be accessed.

During a visit to Knoxville, Tennessee, Jerry and Jyl introduce Steve to McScrooge’s. This is an impressive wine and liquor store that stocks some very fine scotches. It is clearly a local favorite. While the one-way trip is just about 4 1/2 hours, McScrooge’s is clearly worth the drive.

With Don’s encouragement (code word for insistence), Steve develops the on-line version of The Single Malt Scotch Journal forever to be known as Steve Janosik and Don Creamer’s Single Malt Scotch Journal.

Steve and Don hold their second Oxford Conference and make a third pilgrimage to the Whiskey Shop. This visit was as special as the first.

Don and Elizabeth visit London and the Whiskey Shop. This is the second visit to this wonderful place. Don makes another wise purchase that was shared with only those who really appreciate the finest of spirits.

The first hardcopy edition of The Single Malt Scotch Journal is developed. Steve and Don commit themselves to tasting as many single malts as they can find and quickly realize that some sort of note of their impressions would need to taken.
