A Lovely Blend of Cereal and Nuts in This Version

 In Occasional Musings

The second edition of the Benriach Malting Season is a delightfully traditional but simple malt.  This expression is made from Concerto barley and aged in ex-bourbon casks at 48.9% abv.  Benriach malts its barley by turning the wet grain on its own malting floors – a process not often used in today’s automated, high-tech world.  While the expression has no age stated on its label.  The fine print suggests it was distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2022 by Beniach’s master distiller, Rachel Barre.  It is a smooth dram with barley sweetness and cereal grain.  A nutty sweetness follows.  Despite the slightly higher proof, the spice at the end never alerts the senses.
