Another 18 year old to Add to the List

 In Occasional Musings

This beautiful malt is one of the oldest in the Arran core range and is aged in sherry casks.  The sherry and oak dominate the nose.  Orchard fruit and a malty woodiness are well balanced with perhaps a bit of ginger on the finish.  Not overly sweet.  In my view, it is light enough to be enjoyed all year long.

Arran has put out a lot of whiskies over the past decade or so.  The 10 year old can be found pretty easily and there have been plenty of special releases, single casks, fancy finishes.  These are produced in small batches and are more difficult to find.  Because of the limited runs, they may not be available for long periods of time.  At this point in our journey, we’ve sampled 12 different Arran expressions and have found them to be very well made and a very good value.

A more detailed description can be found in our Tasting Notes.
