It’s Always in the Cabinet

 In Occasional Musings

The Balvenie Doublewood is almost always in my liquor cabinet.  Balvenie DoubleWood is first matured in refill American oak casks before it is finished in first fill European oak Oloroso sherry butts for an additional nine months. Even at 12 years old, this rich and complex dram is an excellent example of what the Balvenie distillery can craft.  Even at 46% abv, it’s a great place those not familiar with single malt scotch.

It is sweet malt with bourbon characteristics – gentle spice with a little vanilla. Dried fruit too, combining with nuts, nutmeg and cinnamon.  What’s not to like?  This is a great additional to pumpkin or pecan pie.  Try infusing whipped cream with it or lacing your shortbread cookies with 1/4 cup of Balvenie.  You won’t be disappointed.
