It’s Gotta Be the Grapes

 In Occasional Musings

I revisited the Aberfeldy 15 year old this evening.  It is a sweet fruit bomb!  The luscious red fruit dominate this rich, smooth deep amber colored dram.  It reminds me very much of the Deanston 9 year old, aged in Red Bordeaux casks.

This limited edition bottling has been finished in cabernet sauvignon wine casks from the Napa Valley in California.  As I nose and sip this dram, notes of honey, oak, and subtle spice arrive.  The finish is delicate and a bit drying.

As I recall neither of my scotch-drinking colleagues found these two malts as pleasing as I did but I recommend both of these modestly priced malts highly.
