More from Ardbeg

The Ardbeg Distillery was founded in 1815 and by 1835 there was an ever increasing demand for its products. Throughout the 1800s and early to mid-1900s Ardbeg hit its stride producing almost 1.1 million liters of single malt scotch each year. However, by 1981 the distillery was hardly producing anything at all. By this time, the distillery had seen several different owners and saw yet another in the late 1980s and in 1991 Ardbeg Distillery closed for a second time since its founding.

In 1997, Glenmorangie Company purchased the distillery and turned it around and was voted Distillery of the year just one year later in 1998. Since then, Ardbeg has won the World Whisky of the Year three times.

Over the years Arbeg has perfected its deep smoky single malt scotch. The staff at Arbeg also offers tours to individuals when they are visiting the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll, and Bute Scotland.
