More from Aultmore

The Aultmore distillery, founded by Alexander Edward in 1895, is located in Keith, Banffshire, Scotland. The Aultmore distillery was originally powered by a waterwheel, but eventually became powered by steam as technology improved. By 1898, the distillery was thriving, and production doubled, but then in 1899, Pattinsons, who then owned the distillery, went bankrupt; this led to a halt in production. After several owner changes and closings, the distillery has consistently remained opened since the end of World War I, when it closed in 1914 due to a shortage of barley.

Producing more than 2 million liters of whisky each year, the Aultmore distillery makes a 12-year single malt that has been described as a floral and fruity palate with a very dry and delicate finish (43% ABV). Today the distillery is owned by Dewars, which itself is a subsidiary of Bacardi.

The distillery is generally not open to tours, but small tours can be arranged (4 people or less) in advanced by calling the distillery.
