In Impressions from the Scotch Hunters

This month’s tasting included five malts.  Three malts were produced in the Highlands region, one was a Speysider, and the remaining malt was produced in the Campbeltown region.  We fully expected and were not disappointed that the Glen Scotia was the star of this group.  The Victoriana is the latest launch from this distinguished distillery.  We were, however, quite surprised by the fruity richness found in the Aberfeldy 15 year old.  No doubt the aging in Cabernet Sauvignon casks added to the depth of flavor we found in this dram.  The Oban 11 year old was pleasant enough but frankly we expected a bit more.

The Benriach Smoky 12 and Tomatin 12 were solid single malts but did not offer us anything unusual or of special note.  A more detailed description of our impressions can be found in our individual tasting notes.
